Saving energy

Saving energy

Besides snow-covered landscapes, the winter also brings short days and longer nights. This is accompanied by increased energy consumption to provide for nice lighting conditions and pleasant room temperatures in your home. In order to ensure that winter doesn't leave its traces in the household budget in spring, you need to be efficient with energy in the home. With our tips for saving energy, you can also cleverly cut energy costs during the heating period – and won’t have to go without.
Correct airing
Regularly airing rooms is incredibly important – not just so that your rooms smell fresh, but also to prevent mold or any other moisture-related damage from occurring. However, if you leave the window open for too long, the apartment will cool down completely and you will have to use a lot of energy to heat it back up again afterwards. It is better to blast air into your home for a few short periods by opening up all of the windows. This is an additional utilization of the airing effect. You can close the windows again after about ten minutes. Even if the air is cold to begin with, it will warm up again quickly because the materials in the apartment – for example wooden furniture – have stored the heat.

Socket strips with off-switches
Standby devices such as your TV, PC or coffee machine continue to consume energy after you have turned them off, thereby producing additional costs. According to the calculations made in a study commissioned by the European Commission, leaving products on standby costs private households with average furnishings 71 euros per year on average*. One remedy is socket strips with off switches, which mean that you do not have to turn off each device – instead, with just one click on the off button of the socket strip, you can shut off the power supply to all of the devices attached to it.

Cooking using residual heat
You can also save on energy and costs during cooking: Simply turn off your stove or oven a few minutes before serving and use the residual heat. Extra tip: If pots and pans are the same size as the burners of the stovetop, you won’t lose any heat. Always make sure the right-sized pot lids are on top – reducing the cooking time and storing heat in the pot for longer.

Energy-efficient lighting for Christmas decorations
Fairy lights, shining stars and festive, sparkling electric tea lights: Christmas lights create a festive mood in the pre-Christmas period, but they also consume electricity. In order to keep consumption to a minimum, we recommend that you only use energy-saving lights and LEDs for your lighting.
